Letná
"Leteň" (newly "Letná") means "sunny place" or "place under the sun". Situated on one of the 9 Prague hills, the Letná area is one of the most favorite places of Prague residents.
When walking out of the hotel, you pass by the Toyota Arena. It is the home venue of Sparta Prague and often the home stadium of the Czech National Football Team. Toyota Arena opened in 1933 and holds 20,565 people. Formerly known as the Letna Stadium, it is now named after its sponsor, Toyota.
After crossing the road you enter right into the Letná Park. The park spreads along the Vltava river bank and adjoins the Prague Castle area on its western end. Close to the park's western entrance you will notice a gorgeous gem of a building, the Hanavsky Pavilion, a cast-iron structure built in 1891 in Neo-Baroque style for the Jubilee World Fair. It was later taken apart and reassembled at its present location. Now it serves as a restaurant with a picturesque view onto the Vltava river and Prague historical center. In the eastern part of Letná park, you will find Chateau Letná, a Neo-Renaissance chateau that today houses a popular in- and outdoor restaurant. The eastern part of Letná Park is ended with a beautiful plain-tree alley.
The centerpiece of the Letná area is the Metronome. Erected on the place of the former Stalin monument, it is now a favourite place of gathering for skateboarders. A majestic panorama over the river onto the Old Town, Josefov and Mala Strana opens to the eyes of the visitors. Going down the stairs, you can cross Vltava river by Stefanikuv Bridge in less than 5 minutes and step onto Parizska street, which will lead you past the Jewish Quarter right onto the Old Town Square.
Stromovka Royal Park
250 meters from the hotel, next to the territory of the Russian Embassy, there is an entrance to the Royal Park Stromovka. The former royal hunting park was set up in the year 1268 during the rule of Přemysl Otakar II. Nowadays, the Stromovka spreads on the area of 89 hectares of water and greenery. Centuries-old trees, pools inhabited by ducks, multiple lanes and small wooden bridges create a unique atmosphere of peace and serenity. You can see people of all ages running, skating, riding bicycles, walking with dogs or playing with children. Our hotel guests can joggle in the morning in the specially allocated lanes or visit roller-skates rental which is open throughout the day and is situated near the building of Planetarium.
Výstaviště – Prague exhibition grounds
Walking through the Stromovka Royal Park less than 15 minutes, you can easily reach Výstaviště, the Prague exhibition grounds. The major building of Výstaviště is the Industrial Palace, adjoined by several Krizik’s pavilions. However, the main attraction is certainly the Krizik’s singing fountain. Built in 1891, it has been modernized in the 1990th and now hosts music fountain shows several times a day. The nearby Pyramid Theatre is widely known among Prague residents for the musical “Les Misérables” based on the novel by Victor Hugo. |
